Puppet Basket Camp

(ages 3-10 yrs.)

(This camp will divide into 2 groups for puppet activities-older and younger. Children will come together for playtime, meeting, lunch and afternoon story & snack.)

Using baskets as a portable stage and a magical holder for props, children will make  stories come to life as we move through our week in Ferntop’s inspiring natural setting. With storytelling at the heart, each day will be focused on different aspects of what makes a good story: characters, setting, conflict and resolution. By the end of the week your child will have a handful of basket puppet stories to share and will also have the confidence and knowledge to create stories on their own at home with items around the house. Camp will be led by Clare Rietz.

Some activities include:

• exploring how to use scarves to create an instant backdrop

• Felting small characters

• learning how to use a basket as a vessel to hold props and also as a stage

• Bringing a special prop (stuffed animal, doll, puppet,scarf) from home

• creating a small puppet basket with props to take home for further storytelling adventures
